Additional Lecture/Exercise Geoinformation Systems II (Group 4)

The module aims to introduce participants to theoretical concepts and principles of geoinformation systems and cartographic techniques. The participants will explore and understand theoretical concepts of geospatial data acquisition, handling, visualization and representation, and dissemination in print and online data formats/platforms. GIS and cartography have been increasingly applied across a wide range of disciplines and sectors, for example, infrastructure and planning, health and social sciences, population and demography, environmental and agricultural sciences, security, and surveillance, among others.

The module will integrate lectures, presentations and discussions, and hands-on sessions. Participants will work with actual datasets using ArcGIS Pro software and open-source GIS software such as QGIS. Also, thematic map production using R packages (sf and tmap) will be explored. Participants will have an opportunity to source their own datasets (GPS mapping around the campus or from online databases), and prepare quality and visually appealing maps, and enrich more information to highlight various contexts.

Interested participants are asked to register for the module via the DigiCampus platform. For any inquiries, please send an email to Harison Kipkulei at harison.kipkulei@uni-a.de or directly send a message via DigiCampus.
