Professor Dr. Michael Kort studierte 1975 bis 1977 in Bochum Rechtswissenschaft und Philosophie und setzte sein Jurastudium ab 1977 in München fort. Nach der Ersten Juristischen Staatsprüfung 1981 und der Zweiten Juristischen Staatsprüfung 1984 war er zunächst als Rechtsanwalt in München tätig. 1985 promovierte er bei Professor Hueck in München. Nach einer Tätigkeit als Akademischer Rat a.Z. folgte 1988/89 ein einjähriger Forschungsaufenthalt an der University of California at Berkeley. Anschließend arbeitete Professor Kort von 1989 bis 1993 in einer großen, international ausgerichteten Wirtschaftsanwaltskanzlei in München. Seit 1990 war er zugleich Lehrbeauftragter für Wirtschafts- und Arbeitsrecht an der Universität München. 1996 habilitierte er sich in München. Von 1997 bis 2002 war Professor Kort Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Bürgerliches Recht, Arbeits- und Sozialrecht, Handels- und Unternehmensrecht an der Juristischen Fakultät der TU Dresden. Seit 2002 ist Professor Kort Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Bürgerliches Recht, Wirtschaftsrecht, Gewerblichen Rechtsschutz und Arbeitsrecht an der Juristischen Fakultät der Universität Augsburg. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte liegen auf den Gebieten des deutschen, europäischen und internationalen Wirtschafts- und Arbeitsrechts. Von 01.10.2005 bis 30.09.2007 war er Dekan der Juristischen Fakultät. Von 01.10.2007 bis 30.09.2009 war er Prodekan der Juristischen Fakultät.

From 1975 to 1977 Professor Dr. Michael Kort studied law and philosophy in Bochum and continued his law studies in Munich from 1977. After the First State Examination in 1981 an the Second State Examination in 1984 Professor Dr. Kort worked as a lawyer in Munich. 1985 he received his Ph.D. degree in Munich under the supervision of Professor Hueck. After a fixed-term teaching position Professor Dr. Kort stayed as a postdoc at the University of California at Berkley for one year in 1988/1989. Afterwards he worked as a lawyer in a big internationally oriented law firm for Commercial Law in Munich from 1989 to 1993. At the same time, starting in 1990, he was a visiting lecturer for Commercial Law and Labour Law at the University of Munich. In 1996 he got the qualification as a university lecturer in Munich. From 1997 to 2002 Professor Dr. Kort held the chair of Civil Law, Labour Law, Social Law and Business Law at the Faculty of Law of the Technical University Dresden. Since 2002 Professor Dr. Kort has held the chair of Civil Law, Commercial Law, Intellectual Property Law and Labour Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Augsburg. His activity of research centres on German, European and International Commercial and Labour Law. From October 1, 2005 until September 30, 2007 Professor Dr. Kort was Dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Augsburg. From October 1, 2007 until September 30, 2009 he was Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Augsburg.
