Prof. Dr. Kerstin Stemmer
Kerstin Stemmer’s research focuses on obesity and co-morbid diseases including type 2 diabetes. Her team specifically explores the role of extracellular vesicles in inter- and intra-organ communication and their potential as diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic tools against metabolic disease. Her group further investigates the mechanisms behind diabetic nephropathy at the single-cell level to uncover new therapeutic targets. Last, her team investigates how environmental factors, such as heatwaves, affect pathways underlying metabolic diseases.
