Katharina Wabnitz studierte Humanmedizin an der Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen. Nach einem Jahr klinischer Tätigkeit im Rahmen der österreichischen Basisausbildung in Graz, Österreich absolvierte sie einen MSc Public Health an der London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) in Großbritannien. In der Folge war sie als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin zunächst bei der The Lancet-Chatham House Commission on Improving Population Health post-COVID-19 (University of Cambridge) sowie in der AG Evidence-based Public Health des Lehrstuhls für Public Health und Versorgungsforschung der LMU München tätig. Ihre medizinische Doktorarbeit verfasste sie dort unter der Supervision von Prof. Eva Rehfuess zur Evaluation der S3-Leitlinie Maßnahmen zur Prävention und Kontrolle der SARS-CoV-2-Übertragung in Schulen. In ihrer politikberatenden Rolle als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Centre for Planetary Health Policy (CPHP) der Deutschen Allianz Klimawandel und Gesundheit (KLUG e.V.) fokussierte sie sich insbesondere auf das Co-Benefit-Potenzial von Prävention und Gesundheitsförderung, auf die politische Steuerung von Prävention und Gesundheitsförderung in Deutschland, sowie kommerzielle Determinanten von planetarer Gesundheit und den Ansatz der Suffizienz. Am IEHHS koordiniert sie die Erstellung eines DFG-Forschungsgruppenantrags zur Integration von normativen und empirischen Disziplinen im Kontext Klimagesundheit und -gerechtigkeit.
