Thanks to close ties with regional and national partner institutions, exciting areas of study, and practice-based courses, you will be optimally prepared for your professional future.

Wide range of degree programmes

At the University of Augsburg, you can study history in its entire breadth. Courses range from Ancient to Contemporary history and while our undergraduate degree program focuses on Germany and Europe, you will have ample opportunity to broaden your horizons through courses in North American, Eastern European or Global History.

Interdisciplinary offerings, as in Environmental Humanities, Environmental Ethics, Cultural and Judaic Studies, further allow you to journey into the realms of literature and culture, Political Science and Sociology, Art History and European Anthropology. It is this diversity that makes our degree programme exciting.

Certificate courses, pre-vocational practice and research

In addition to your regular studies, you can specialise in particular historical fields and take certificate courses. We assign great importance to preparing you for your future career and enabling you to acquire additional qualifications.

We cooperate with a wide range of historical and cultural institutions in the region and beyond to offer valuable practical experience, for instance at Bavaria’s museums, memorial sites, or regional, city, or state archives.

In addition to our practice-based programmes, the University of Augsburg has a strong focus on research and the department enjoys institutional ties with the Institute of Contemporary History Munich-Berlin and the Bukovina Institute Augsburg. In addition, other connections will offer the opportunity to gain important research experience or even first-hand work in one of our research projects.

Campus university and livable environment

The University of Augsburg is a campus university. All buildings and facilities are close together, which saves time and allows you to concentrate fully on your studies. Also, our campus has many green oases. It is the perfect place to meet, exchange ideas, and learn together.

As a "water city", Augsburg is a liveable city - neither far away from the metropolis of Munich (but with an affordable cost of living) nor from the Bavarian lakes and Alps. And since you are interested in history: Augsburg has a lot of exciting things to offer from Roman times to the present day.

We are there to support you

At the University of Augsburg, you will receive excellent, personalized support throughout your studies. Regardless of whether you are just starting out or are already writing your doctoral dissertation, Augsburg's professors and staff are there to advise you.
