Requirements / Master North American Studies
In order to be admitted, applicants for NAS must meet the following requirements:
- A Bachelor diploma in the fields of language, literary, cultural, or social studies. In particular, diplomas in theology, philosophy, history, literature and linguistics, European and non-European philology, psychology, education studies, religious studies, political science, sociology, geography, communication studies, or similar degrees are accepted.
- International applicants whose native language is not German must document their language competence on the level DSH 2 or TestDaF4. Moreover, English must be proven at C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, as well as another foreign language at B1 level. Proof of mastery of the second language can be submitted by the end of the first year of study. The German "Abitur" certificate or an official language test based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages counts as proof.
- In case the Bachelor diploma is not yet completed by the time of application, students can be preliminarily enrolled under the condition that they can document at least 140 ECTS credits acquired during their Bachelor program. They will be asked to provide their Bachelor diploma at the end of the first NAS semester.

- A list of the required application documents can be found on the website of the Studierendenkanzlei. In addition to the official documents required for the application, please send a short Letter of Motivation (500 – 1000 words) to ina.batzke@uni-a.de.
- Applications are welcome from June 1 to August 15 of each year (regular deadline) and from August 15 to September 1 (extended deadline).
