Friends' association
The „Gesellschaft der Freunde der Universität Augsburg“ is the sponsorship association of the University of Augsburg which supports its further expansion. The purpose of the Society of Friends is to promote the teaching and research work of the University, to deepen relations between the economy and the population of Augsburg and the University, and to contribute to the maintenance of intellectual life. Members of the Society may be natural persons or legal entities, as well as public and civil law associations of other kinds.
The society supports the university in many ways from the contributions and donations of its members. It enables lectures by foreign professors and politicians, as well as poetry readings. It promotes excursions by students in Germany and abroad and awards prizes for outstanding dissertations. It supports the 'collegium musicum' of the university and promotes many other activities. Through its unbureaucratic assistance, the society is able to effectively support a broad spectrum of academic life in this way.
