Welcome Event for New Doctoral Candidates
The Graduate Center warmly invites all new doctoral candidates to a welcome event filled with information and networking opportunities.
- Get an overview of services and resources available for doctoral candidates at the University of Augsburg
- Meet the representatives of the UniA units that support early-career researchers and the Doctoral Candidate Representatives of the Steering Committee of the Graduate Centre
- Participate in a World-Café conversation on "Getting Started: Your PhD at the University of Augsburg"
- Join an informal get-together and connect with doctoral candidates from all faculties and disciplines. Snacks and beverages will be provided.

Scientia! The Graduate Centre’s lecture series
The Graduate Centre’s lecture series Scientia! features speakers on a range of academic career issues and seeks to expand early career researchers’ transnational and interdisciplinary perspectives. By drawing attention to contemporary topics and discourses within the national and international higher education landscape, it reflects on the role of the university in the 21st century. In alignment with the University of Augsburg’s concept of the “network university,” Scientia! underscores the importance of collaborative research as a mechanism for solving society’s current and future challenges.

„REDEN IST GOLD“
Warum gute Wissenschaftskommunikation Voraussetzung ist für eine moderne und offene Wissenschaft, warum sie alle angeht und ihre Förderung eine strategische Selbstverständlichkeit sein sollte
Vortragender ist der namhafte Wissenschaftsjournalist, Autor und Moderator Herr Dr. Jan-Martin Wiarda, der in seinem „Wiarda-Blog“ die tagesaktuellen Geschehnisse in Bildung, Wissenschaft und Politik beleuchtet und in die 2020 ins Leben gerufene BMBF-Initiative #FactoryWisskomm eingebunden war.
Im Rahmen seines Impulses wird Herr Dr. Wiarda einen fächerübergreifenden Blick auf die gegenwärtige Rolle sowie den Stellenwert von Wissenschaftskommunikation im deutschen Wissenschaftssystem werfen und gleichermaßen auf best-practice Beispiele eingehen, wie auch Hindernisse für erfolgreiche Wissenschaftskommunikation thematisieren.
Die anschließende Podiumsdiskussion, an der neben Herrn Dr. Wiarda drei Wissenschaftler:innen verschiedener Qualifikationsstufen und unterschiedlicher Fakultäten teilnehmen werden, rückt die individuellen und fachspezifischen Erfahrungen mit Wissenschaftskommunikation ins Zentrum und fragt nach Bedarfen und Angeboten zum Kompetenzerwerb in diesem Bereich.
Das fakultätsübergreifende und interdisziplinäre Highlight-Event ist Teil der Angebote, die die Medizinische Fakultät im Rahmen des zentralen Graduiertenzentrums der Universität Augsburg für die fachübergreifende Vernetzung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses etablieren möchte. Zum Abschluss bietet daher das Networking-Get-Together mit Getränken und Snacks die Gelegenheit, sich in ungezwungener Atmosphäre untereinander sowie mit den Teilnehmenden der Podiumsdiskussion auszutauschen.
