The aim of the GGS is to support and promote excellent research in the humanities and social sciences at the University of Augsburg. PhD students and postdoctoral researchers from the Faculty of Philology and History, the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Catholic Theology can benefit from comprehensive training opportunities, funding formats, and the research infrastructure provided by the GGS. In addition, the GGS offers graduate students the opportunity to pursue their doctoral studies in a structured and goal-oriented manner using the GGS structural model.

Structured doctoral studies

The structured doctoral phase within the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences is designed to last for three years (6 semesters), which can be extended twice by two semesters each, for a maximum duration of five years.

• Intensive supervision by a group of up to three qualified professors within the GGS-affiliated doctoral programs.

Additional offerings:

• Renting a workspace in an individual workroom
• Use of the group and conference room at the GGS (also for personal study groups/writing groups, etc.)
• Borrowing one of the laptops with access to the university software center (subject to availability) for the duration of the doctoral phase.
