The Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Materials Engineering at the University of Augsburg at the Institute of Physics is seeking to make the following appointment at the earliest possible date

for Experimental Physics – Biomaterials

The appointment is as a tenured public servant.

The University of Augsburg is looking for a candidate with an excellent track record in the field of biomaterials and their functionality and biophysical characterization. Research topics can include, for example, bio-inspired materials, biomineralization, biocatalysis, biocorrosion, or biofilms and their interaction with surfaces. The main investigative methods to be used are high-resolution electron microscopy and other (bio-)physical approaches for characterization.

At the Institute of Physics, fundamental and application-oriented research is carried out using methods from experimental and theoretical physics, materials science, chemistry and quantitative life sciences. This offers a wide range of cooperation opportunities, particularly with the Institute of Materials Resource Management and the Medical Faculty. Competitive acquisition of third-party funding and the participation in collaborative research projects is expected.

The tasks associated with the professorship include appropriate participation in student education in materials science and physics (Bachelor, Master) at the Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Technology. The teaching includes lectures, tutorials, and lab courses amounting to nine course hours, especially in the areas of materials science and physics.

The prerequisites for employment pursuant to Art. 57 Para. 1 BayHIG are a relevant university degree in physics, materials science, or a related discipline, pedagogical aptitude, and the special aptitude for academic work typically demonstrated by the quality of doctorate, as well as additional academic achievement through a habilitation or equivalent qualification, which may have been achieved outside of the university sector or through a junior professorship. Leadership of a junior research group is considered an equivalent academic achievement under the conditions specified in Art. 98 Para. 10 Sentence 5 BayHIG.

Appointment as a public servant is possible only up to the age of 52. Candidates over the age of 52 can be employed within the framework of an employment contract under private law.
