From the 1st of August 2024, people can register to declare a change in gender and/or first name at a registry office (Standesamt). The declaration can be submitted three months after registering.

A change of gender and/or first name can be made at the University of Augsburg following the submission of the following documentation.

• Signed request form to change personal data. This can be found here: https://www.uni-augsburg.de/de/organisation/einrichtungen/studierendenkanzlei/antrage/
• Confirmation of the change from the civil status register (Personenstandsregister) OR a copy of the changed birth certificate OR a copy of the changed personal ID card.

Supplementary certificates or confirmation of registration for the submission of the declaration to the registry office is unfortunately not sufficient for changing your personal data.

The new Self-Determination Act (Selbstbestimmungsgesetz, SBGG) replaces the Transsexual Act (Transsexuellengesetz, 1980) on the 1st of November 2024. The new act aims to secure the rights of transgender, intersex, and non-binary people. The new regulation enables people to change their registered gender and/or first name via self-disclosure at the registry office (Standesamt).
