University Professor (m/f/d) for Experimental Otorhinolaryngology and Tumor Immunology, Faculty of Medicine

On December 1, 2016, the University of Augsburg founded a Faculty of Medicine that pursues an internationally attractive and interdisciplinary scientific profile with the two main research areas "Medical Information Sciences" (MIS) and "Environmental Health Sciences" (EHS) and the clinical profile centers Vascular Medicine, Tumor Medicine and Allergology. Since winter term 2019/2020, it offers the first model study program in Bavaria.

Augsburg University Hospital offers almost all medical specialties for the approximately two million inhabitants of the administrative district of Swabia. The Clinic of Otorhinolaryngology offers the complete range of discipline related services with a focus and correspondingly large cohorts of patients in the treatment of head and neck tumors, including surgical therapy and systemic therapy. In research, the Clinic of Otorhinolaryngology participates together with the Clinic of Dermatology and Allergology in a research laboratory and a study center with a joint, state-of-the-art equipment infrastructure. The clinic is part of the CCC Augsburg and the NCT WERA, CCC WERA and BZKF networks. Furthermore, the clinic is a certified organ center for head and neck tumors.

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Augsburg is seeking to make the following appointment at the earliest possible starting date

University Professor (m/f/d)
Salary grade W2

for Experimental Otorhinolaryngology and Tumor Immunology

The appointment is as a tenured public servant.

The professorship is associated with the further expansion and independent management of the research laboratory of the Clinic for Otorhinolaryngology at the Medical Campus South.

The University of Augsburg would like to attract an outstanding and internationally visible personality with leadership skills who can demonstrate excellent translational research in the immunological-oncological focus and further develop this at the Clinic for Otorhinolaryngology. Applicants must have a broad knowledge of methods in experimental and translational research into solid tumors with transferability to the head and neck area. Furthermore, methodological expertise, particularly in the fields of tumor immunology, T-cell biology and B-cell biology, is a key requirement for the professorship. Within the scope of research projects, which can be located, for example, in the area of T-cell mediated anti-tumor response or can investigate the influence of the environment and therapy on the immune system of cancer patients, there are broad links to the research focus areas EHS and MIS, to the Institute for Theoretical Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine and to the Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Experimental Cancer Research (InLEC), e.g. in HPV research. Key selection criteria are success in acquiring third-party funding and high-ranking publications. The ability and willingness to work interdisciplinarily in research networks of the University or the University Hospital Augsburg as well as across locations is required. This includes in particular the Comprehensive Cancer Center Augsburg (CCCA), which is funded as an Oncological Center of Excellence by German Cancer Aid in conjunction with the Würzburg, Erlangen and Regensburg sites and is a site of the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT WERA).

Due to the position holder's involvement in medical education, special commitment and broad experience in modern skills-based teaching in a model degree program, including the use of blended learning formats, are required and must be reflected in a specific teaching concept. Proof of a didactic qualification is advantageous.

Recruitment requirements for the professorship are a completed degree in human medicine or natural sciences and several years of work as a scientist. In addition, pedagogical aptitude, proven teaching experience, special aptitude for scientific work, which is usually demonstrated by a doctorate, as well as the habilitation or proof of equivalent scientifically relevant achievements in the advertised subject area which may also have been achieved in the context of a junior professorship or outside academia, are required. Leadership of a junior research group is considered an equivalent academic achievement under the conditions specified in Art. 98 Para 10 Sentence 5 BayHIG.

Appointment as a public servant can only take place so long as one is not over 52 years of age. Otherwise, employment is possible within the framework of an employment contract under private law.
