The Chair of Cyber Security (Prof. Dr. Frank Breitinger) at the Institute of Computer Science, Faculty of Applied Computer Science, University of Augsburg, is seeking a

Postdoctoral Researcher / PostDoc (m/f/d)
in the field of Cyber Security or Digital Forensics
(German: Akademische Rätin / Akademischer Rat (m/f/d) auf Zeit)

starting on 1st of February 2025 (or to be agreed upon), for a full-time position in a temporary civil servant role limited to three years (German: Beamtenverhältnis auf Zeit) with the possibility for a three-year extension within the framework of further scientific qualification. The salary will be based on pay grade A13, depending on civil service and legal requirements. The position is also suitable for part-time employment.

The responsibilities include contributing to the research and teaching activities of the Chair of Cyber Security and the Institute of Computer Science. Opportunities for conducting independent research, publishing, and advancing your academic qualifications are available and encouraged. The teaching load is five contact hours per week (5 SWS).

Recruitment requirements:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Cyber Security, Digital Forensics, or a closely related discipline), with above-average academic performance
  • Doctorate in a subject relevant to the chair (may still be in progress at the time of application but must be completed at the time of recruitment)
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English (German is a plus)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as commitment to independent research
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a research team

Additional Qualifications (Advantageous):

  • Previous knowledge or interest in one or more core research areas of the chair
  • Experience with or interest in machine learning/AI techniques, particularly their application in Cyber Security or Digital Forensics
  • Strong programming skills and a solid understanding of general computing concepts

The required qualification must already be proven in the application documents by means of appropriate certificates.
