The Chair of Cyber Security (Prof. Dr. Frank Breitinger) at the Institute of Computer Science, Faculty of Applied Computer Science, University of Augsburg, is seeking a

 

Research Assistant (m/f/d)
in the field of Cyber Security or Digital Forensics
(German: wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin / wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter)

 

starting on February 1, 2025 (or be agreed on), for a full-time position on an initial three-year fixed-term contract. There may be an opportunity for fixed-term contract extension within the framework of further scientific qualification. The salary will be based on pay grade TV-L 13 (collective agreement), depending on personal and collective bargaining qualifications. The position is also suitable for part-time employment.

The responsibilities include contributing to the research and teaching activities of the Chair and Institute of Computer Science. Opportunities for pursuing a doctorate, as well as for engaging in research and publishing, are available and encouraged. The teaching load is five contact hours per week (5 SWS).

Recruitment requirements:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Cyber Security, Digital Forensics, or a closely related discipline), completed with above-average academic performance (may still be in progress at the time of application but must be completed at the time of recruitment)
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English (German is a plus)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as commitment to independent research
  • Motivation to pursue a PhD and contribute to cutting-edge research in the field
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a research team

Additional Qualifications (Advantageous):

  • Prior knowledge or interest in one or more core research areas of the Chair
  • Experience with or interest in machine learning/AI techniques, particularly their application in Cyber Security or Digital Forensics
  • Strong programming skills and a solid understanding of general computing concepts

The required qualification must already be proven in the application documents by means of appropriate certificates.
